BoyCat: Ups and downs
Determined Sam

Up: BoyCat was definitely feeling better for the past few days: playful, affectionate, talkative. He was very snuggly this morning before I got out of bed, kneading my pillow and purring up a storm.

Don't read if discussion of cats throwing up makes you want to do the sameCollapse )

...but he's definitely not quite himself: subdued and less appetite than normal.

The staff at the emergency vet loves him.Collapse )

He went in today for his follow-up visit with the cardiologist.  Ironically, going to the vet caused him to have to stay at the vet.Collapse )

BoyCat is doing well

Just about a week after I brought him home, BoyCat is doing well. His behavior is just about back to normal, and he hasn't had any episodes of labored breathing. He vomited a couple of times on Monday, but that may be a side effect of one of his meds. Details and pic under the cutCollapse )

BoyCat's first night home

BoyCat had a restless night, and consequently, so did I. He just couldn't seem to get comfortable. But fortunately, he wasn't having any problems breathing.

He's taking more meds than most people.Collapse )

He did "fantastically well" coming off the oxygen, according to the vet tech, and so he's now upstairs sleeping on my bed. He's on Lasix plus two more meds to help his heart function, and will be for the rest of his life. He's breathing normally--cats should breathe 30-45 times per minutes, which I didn't know until now--and seems to be in very good spirits. He ate half a can of Fancy Feast and is drinking a lot of water, due to the Lasix (a diuretic to remove the fluid from his lungs).

We both have cardiologists now.Collapse )

Visited BoyCat this evening

I stayed until they kicked me out--about 45 minutes. BoyCat is still in the oxygen tent, and his breathing is much improved--just a little heavier than normal. Behavior-wise, he's nearly normal: He ate almost a full can of Fancy Feast, he rubbed and purred on me through the little hand-hole in the oxygen tent, and he charmed the vet tech by rolling over and showing her his belly.

They'll start reducing the oxygen concentration tonight or tomorrow.Collapse )

Many thanks for the good wishes and thoughts for my BoyCat!

He's doing better today.Collapse )

My BoyCat

My black-and-white BoyCat suddenly and unexpectedly went into heart failure today after getting an abscess treated. The emergency vet thinks that the trauma of the treatment exacerbated an underlying unidentified heart condition.

If you can spare some kind thoughts or prayers for him, I'd be grateful.Collapse )
